How to ask a podcast guest to share their episode

Most guests are happy to share an episode they are proud of. What stops them is friction. They mean to post it, then they cannot find the link, or they do not know what to write, and the moment passes.

You remove that friction by handing them everything ready to go. The link, a caption they can use as is, and zero pressure. Make sharing a copy-and-paste, not a project.

Your episode is live, Devon

Hi Devon,

Our episode of The Build is live, and I could not be happier with how it turned out. Thank you again for the conversation.

If you feel like sharing it, I made that part easy. Here is the link: https://thebuild.fm/episodes/devon. And here is a caption you are welcome to copy, change, or ignore completely:

"I joined The Build to talk about the messy middle of scaling a team. If you have ever had to make a hard call with incomplete information, this one is for you."

No pressure at all. You already gave me the best part by showing up and talking straight, so anything beyond that is a bonus, and I am grateful either way.

Thank you, Jordan

Why this one gets a yes

Common questions

How do I ask a podcast guest to share their episode?

Lead with thanks, hand them the link, and include a caption they can post as is. Then take the pressure off completely. When sharing is a copy-and-paste and the ask is framed as a bonus rather than a duty, far more guests actually do it.

Should I write the social copy for my guest?

Yes. It is the single biggest thing you can do to get an episode shared. A guest who has to write their own caption often means to and never gets to it. Hand them a post they can use as is or tweak in ten seconds, and you remove the one step that stops them.

What if the guest does not share the episode?

Let it go and stay warm. Plenty of guests never share and are still glad they came on, and the relationship matters more than one post. You gave them an easy way to do it, which is your part. Chasing a share is a fast way to spend goodwill you worked to build.
