How to follow up after pitching yourself as a podcast guest

Most guest pitches die from silence, not from a no. The host meant to reply, the inbox moved, and your note slid down the pile. A single follow-up a few days later is the cheapest booking you will ever get, because sending twice roughly doubles the reply rate over sending once.

The nudge is not a new pitch. Restate one idea, keep it short, and make the reply a two-second decision. Mid-morning on a Monday or Tuesday tends to catch a host when they are triaging the inbox.

Re: guesting on The Build

Hi Sam,

Following up on my note from last week about guesting on The Build. No pressure if the timing is off.

The one idea I keep coming back to: why most founders underprice and how to fix it in a week. I think your listeners would get real use out of it, especially after your episode on hiring before you're ready.

If it helps, I can send a couple of sample questions so you can see the shape of it. Would a short recording work for you?

Thanks, Jordan

Common questions

How long should you wait to follow up on a guest pitch?

About four to seven days. Long enough that you are not crowding them, short enough that your first note is still in reach. One good follow-up roughly doubles your odds compared to a single email, so the nudge is worth sending.

How many times should you follow up?

Once, maybe twice. A first follow-up does most of the work. If a second polite nudge gets silence, let it rest and try again in a few months with a fresh idea. Chasing past two emails costs you more goodwill than it wins bookings.

What is the best day to send a follow-up?

Mid-morning on a Monday or Tuesday, in the host's time zone, tends to land when they are clearing the inbox. Avoid Friday afternoons and weekends, when your note gets buried by Monday. Timing will not save a weak pitch, but it helps a good one get seen.
