How to pitch yourself as a podcast guest

The guest pitches that get a yes are short and generous. They run about fifty to a hundred and twenty-five words, they reference a real episode so the host knows you listen, and they hand over specific topic ideas instead of a paragraph about how great you are.

Most hosts would rather be given an episode concept than an introduction. So lead with the ideas, tie them to their audience, and make the reply easy.

Guest idea for The Build: pricing your first product

Hi Sam,

Your episode on hiring before you're ready is what made me write. I work in SaaS pricing, and I think I could give your listeners a conversation they would actually use.

Three angles I could bring: - why most founders underprice and how to fix it in a week - the three-number method for a sales call - what changed when I raised prices 40 percent

I have been a guest on a handful of shows, so I know how to show up ready and make your edit easy. Would any of these be a fit?

Thank you, Jordan

Common questions

How do you pitch yourself to be a podcast guest?

Keep it short, lead with the host's show rather than yourself, and offer two or three specific episode ideas tied to their audience. Reference an actual episode so they know you listen, and add a link to any past appearances so they can hear your style. The best guest pitches read as a gift of ideas, not a request for a platform.

How long should a podcast guest pitch be?

About fifty to a hundred and twenty-five words. Longer pitches get treated as work and set aside. Say who you are in a sentence, give the topic ideas, offer quick proof you can carry a conversation, and stop. The goal of the email is a reply, not your whole résumé.

What is the best subject line to pitch yourself as a guest?

Short and clear about the ask. Something like "Guest idea for [show]: [topic]" tells the host what the email is before they open it. Keep it under about forty characters, skip the salesy words that trip spam filters, and never bury the ask.
