How to turn a podcast listener into a guest
Some of the best guests are already in your audience. They left a review that said something sharp, replied to your newsletter, or dropped a comment that was better than half your interviews. They have lived the thing and they can talk about it.
The invite works because it is specific. You are not cold-pitching a stranger, you are telling someone you read what they wrote and want to hear more. Quote them, keep it warm, and make the yes easy.

Would you come on The Build?
Hi Dana,
Your review on the firing a friend episode stayed with me. You wrote, "I did this in my own company and it nearly broke me," and that is the kind of thing my listeners need to hear more of.
You clearly live this. Would you come on The Build and talk it through? I am picturing a conversation about the human cost of a hard call, built around what you already said, not a stiff interview.
One remote recording, about forty minutes, on your calendar. I will send a few questions ahead so nothing catches you off guard, and I will make the edit easy on my end.
Would you be up for it?
Thanks, Jordan
Why this one gets a yes
- It quotes the listener back to themselves. Nothing proves you mean the invite like the exact words they used.
- It reframes a fan into a contributor. Someone who already engages with the show is halfway to saying yes, because they care about the topic.
- It keeps the ask small and concrete: one recording, forty minutes, questions ahead. A first-time guest needs the unknown taken off the table.
Common questions
How do you turn a listener into a podcast guest?
Start with the specific thing they said, whether it was a review, a reply, or a comment. Quote it back, tell them it belongs in a fuller conversation, and invite them on. Because they already engage with the show, the invitation feels like a natural next step rather than a cold ask.
Are engaged listeners good podcast guests?
Often, yes. A listener who leaves a sharp review or a thoughtful reply already knows your format and cares about the subject. They may not have a title that impresses, but lived experience and a real point of view make for a better episode than a polished guest with nothing to say.
How do you find listeners worth inviting?
Watch your reviews, replies, and comments for the ones that say something specific. A person who adds a real story or pushes back with a good point is telling you they have more to give. Keep a short list of those names, and reach out while the moment is fresh.
