How to pitch a podcast guest swap
A guest swap is the cleanest growth trade two small shows can make. You appear on their show, they appear on yours, and each of you borrows an audience that already trusts the other. No money changes hands, and both feeds get a strong episode out of it.
The pitch works when the overlap is real and you lead with theirs, not yours. Name why your audience is right for them before you ask for anything back. Fill in the details below.

A guest swap between The Bootstrapped Hour and Founder Mode?
Hi Priya,
I host The Bootstrapped Hour, and I've been recommending Founder Mode to my own listeners for a while now. We're aimed at nearly the same room: early-stage SaaS founders making their first hires.
Here's the idea. I'd love to have you on The Bootstrapped Hour to talk about getting to $1M ARR without a sales team, and in the same stretch I'd come on Founder Mode for whatever angle fits your audience. One recording each, two episodes, and both of us reach a warm audience we haven't met yet.
If that sounds worth doing, I'll send a couple of dates and a short list of angles for each side. No pressure either way.
Best, Sam
Why this one gets a yes
- It leads with their show, not yours. Saying you already recommend them, and that your audiences match, proves the fit before the ask arrives.
- It is symmetrical and concrete: one recording each, two episodes, a warm audience for both. A swap that is obviously even is easy to say yes to.
- It closes on a low-stakes next step, dates and angles, not a commitment. The other host can picture exactly what happens next, which is what turns a nice idea into a booked date.
Common questions
What is a podcast guest swap?
A guest swap is a trade where two hosts each appear as a guest on the other's show. You interview them for your feed, they interview you for theirs, usually in the same window. Each show gets a strong episode and, more valuable, an introduction to an audience that already trusts the other host. It works best between shows of similar size that share a listener profile without competing head to head.
How is a guest swap different from a promo swap?
A promo swap trades short ads: you play a clip for their show, they play one for yours. A guest swap trades whole episodes and full interviews, so each audience gets real exposure to the other host rather than a fifteen-second mention. Swaps build a deeper relationship, but they ask more of both people, so save them for shows whose audience you genuinely want to reach.
How do I find shows to swap with?
Look for shows one rung above or beside yours in size, aimed at the same listener but not covering the identical beat. A show that competes directly has little reason to send you its audience. A show that serves the same people from a different angle has every reason to. Your own past guests and the other shows they appear on are the fastest place to find hosts already near your orbit.
